Hello Dandelion

get-attachment.aspxAfter all this time, I thought they were just pesty little weeds. Boy was I wrong. The benefits of dandelions are endless. Not only do they detox the liver and kidneys, dandelions cleanse and oxygenate cells. These leafy green vegetables are cancer fighters. They also fight against inflammation, diabetes, and strengthen the immune system. If you suffer from an iron or calcium deficiency this is the cure for you. Dandelions also work as a mild laxative without the cramping or griping of the stomach. They relieve water retention when mother nature is visiting.

Dandelions grow in the summer. They are difficult to find when the seasons change. There are red dandelions and green dandelions. Either one is fine. I usually purchase my dandelions from Wholefoods or my neighborhood vegetable stand. When choosing a bunch of dandelions, look for dark green leaves. I usually wash my greens thoroughly in warm water. I chop them up and place them in a plastic zip lock bag, then store them in the refrigerator. They will remain fresh for about 3 days. This works for me because I drink them every morning. If your goal is to detox, energize, and maybe see your abs again, START HERE.

Warning: these greens are extremely bitter. So here is my recipe for a Dandelion Green Smoothie

2 cups of chopped dandelion greens

1  1/2 cup of Martinelli’s Apple Juice (the apple juice will dilute the bitterness)

Mix at speed 6 in the Vitamix for 30 seconds

**Feel free to add a banana or strawberries
