In order to live the life you desire, you have to decide. Simply make the decision to live the life you desire. Next, set meaningful goals. Determine what steps are necessary for you to achieve that goal. Lastly, Don’t stray from the path. I know it sounds easy. For some reason, it’s easier to say or write down what we intend to do, but it’s difficult to turn those intentions into actions. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  1. Avoid setting unreasonable goals. We are all guilty of it. January 1st rolls around and all of sudden we feel like we can conquer the world. We greet the day with the idea of a fresh start and a list of unreasonable resolutions. How do you plan to workout everyday with a fulltime job and three kids? It can be done, but be real with yourself. We are capable of conquering the world, but as the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Set a realistic goal. For example, start by working out two days a week or maybe even one day. At least you’ve started.

  1. Keep a journal. Write it down; goals, daily activities, random thoughts. I can’t commit to writing a journal entry every night. I write down my personal goals for the year on New Year’s Eve. When I need motivation, I read them periodically throughout the year. If I feel the need to write something in my journal, I do. At the end of the year, I check off the goals I’ve accomplished. The remaining goals, I write down for the following year. No pressure.

  1. Learn to say NO! You can’t do it all. If your plate is full and you’re on your way back for seconds, say no. When tires run thin, they blowout and so will you. Prioritizes and remember you’re grown. Your decisions don’t require explanations. Hell, have fun with it. Decorate your NOs…. No, absolutely not, hell no, or a simple side eye will do. Get your point across.

  1. Clean up, unclutter, and get organized. This goes for work and home. Make your space aesthetically pleasing. You don’t have to spend a lot of money. Once I clean my space, I buy a nice candle and a bunch of fresh inexpensive flowers to create a happy space. I don’t know about you, but can’t function in a defunct environment.

  1. Surround yourself with people who will motivate you and lift you up. Leave Debbie Downer in the ditch. Avoid the gossip and negativity. Be selective of who you allow in your space. Catching negative spirits is as easy as catching a cold. Be the light that drives out darkness.
